In an unprecedented and unexpected move, Apple is set to hold a press event in China, just 9 hours after hosting its big media event in the US on September 10. While many gushed about the upcoming big media event, where the next round of iPhones, such as the rumored IPhone 5s and IPhone 5c are set to be unveiled, many were shocked that Apple also decided to host a press event in China almost simultaneously.

Various Chinese publications were invited to participate in the special Apple press event at 10 AM CT on September 11. In particular, Beijing is set to host this event. Another interesting fact here is that the design of the invitations looked the same or was actually identical to those received by media outlets in the US on Tuesday.
Beijing is 15 hours ahead of California and as such, there will only be about 9 hours after the media event in the US end and the press event in China starts. It is questionable therefore if Apple's top execs will be present in China's press event or if this event in Beijing is really a full-fledged press event.
Some claimed that this press event in China is Apple's way to court new customers from the Chinese market. Apple's CEO Tim Cook claimed he anticipates China will in time, become Apple's largest market. This outlook is optimistic considering Apple's revenue in China in the most recent quarter was significantly lower compared to the same period last year.
The Iphone 5C, the rumored lower-cost IPhone is expected to do well in the Chinese market.
Some also speculated that the press event is perfect for Apple to reveal a partnership with China Mobile, the largest carrier in the world.
All these announcements and speculations is doing Apple's stock price a favor. It was up by more than 2% on Wednesday. It is now valued at $500.
