Henan Jianye FC settled for a 1-1 draw with former China top-flight champions Liaoning Whowin FC at the Zhengzhou Hanghai Stadium on Sunday in a second round match of the 2017 Chinese Super League season.
It was the second-straight drawn match for both Henan Jianye and Liaoning Whowin this season. The two teams are currently in a five-team tie on points with Hebei China Fortune, Chongqing Dangdai Lifan, and newly-promoted squad Guizhou Hengfeng Zhicheng.

The first half of the game ended in a goalless draw as both sides were still feeling each other out. Henan had Cameroonian forward Christian Bassogog, Czech midfielder Borek Dockal, and Danish defender Eddi Gomes as their in-match foreign players while Liaoning had former Werder Bremen striker Anthony Ujah, newly-signed Australian midfielder Robbie Kruse, and Congolese defender Assani Lukimya among its starters, Soccerway reported.
The game's deadlock was broken by Liaoning's local defender Lang Zheng, who is on a season-long loan spell from Hebei China Fortune, in the hour-mark of the match with an assist coming from Lukimya. However, Henan was able to respond immediately as Gomes leveled the match just two minutes later after he directed Hu Jinghang's cross toward the back of Zhang Zhenqiang's net, ESPN reported.
Henan was coming off a goalless tie with Hebei China Fortune in their season-opener on March 5. Their next match will be against Fabio Cannavaro's Tianjin Quanjian on the road at the Haihe Educational Football Stadium on April 1.
Meanwhile, Liaoning was held to a 1-1 draw by Guizhou Zhicheng in their season-opening fixture on March 3 at the Guiyang Olympic Sports Center. Head coach Ma Lin's squad will square off with struggling powerhouse Jiangsu Suning in a third round match on April 2 at their home ground, the Shenyang Olympic Sports Center Stadium.
