Apart from their devoted head coach Chip Kelly and their quick offense, the Philadelphia Eagles are also being assisted by a network of professors from around the country.

Two weeks have passed since the National Football League (NFL) started the 2014-2015 season, and the Philadelphia Eagles are off to a great start with two wins already under their belt.

After Kelly led the University of Oregon years earlier, he made academics an important fixture in his career. That is why off-season, he contacts several professors to possibly give him new ideas that can help his team win.

Harry Edwards, a professor emeritus at the University of California-Berkeley and an expert on race relations, has been counsel to Kelly. He says that Kelly is always in search for the missing piece that he thinks may not be found in the sports arena.

One of his assistant coaches likens it to a TED talk symposium where Kelly is the only benefactor. Kelly is immensely devoted to the idea of finding the missing pieces.

One of the professors brought in to help the Eagles was K. Anders Ericsson from the University of Stockholm. He is an eminent scholar in Florida State University's psychology department.

Ericsson was brought in to enhance the players' ability to articulate the situations in games - a trait that the coaching staff of the Eagles prizes much.

Safety Malcolm Jenkins said that the coaching staff would flash formations from the other team, pushing the players to remember them while also analyzing and yell out what play they would use.

After a while, the formations would flash faster and faster.

Ericsson said that it wasn't enough, and that they should respond to video clips of more complex scenarios since they are trying to build much better cognitive abilities.

After hearing about these professors, Kelly was asked in an interview if he ever wanted to work with engineering professors.

Kelly's reply was positive: "I'd love to get with those guys."

The Eagles will be going up against the Washington Redskins next, and will be putting their undefeated streak on the line.
