Mobike Technology Co. Ltd has announced its deepened strategic partnership with Tencent, tapping the 889 monthly active users of WeChat app.
The bike-sharing industry is fast becoming popular in China, and Mobike took an important leap further to simplify access to its bikes to an even larger audience across the country.

WeChat users will be able to directly launch Mobike and scan the QR code to unlock the bike. The Mobike functionality will be part of the Wechat wallet section of the Wechat app. It will be accessible without leaving the Wechat app along with Didi Chuxing’s ride sharing platform, restaurant takeout and food delivery provider Meituan Waimai, dining and entertainment ratings and group buy platform Dianping, and JD.com’s e-commerce site.
“Through this integration with WeChat, we offer their massive user base a number of new ways to quickly and conveniently access Mobike’s service. Moreover, WeChat’s unrivaled reach right across China enables us to bring our offering to even more urban travelers and further our mission of bringing more bikes to more cities through our truly smart biking platform,” said Joe Xia, Mobike’s cofounder and CTO.
The new feature comes from Mobike’s close existing relationship with Tencent. The Chinese internet company has been a strategic investor in Mobike’s Series C+ and D rounds of fundraising. The two companies are working closely on product, marketing, and user-focused initiatives.
Mobike is offering free rides for 30 days to users who will access the service via WeChat. It has also expanded its bicycle-sharing service to 36 cities with more than one million bicycles. It is set to add Singapore to its list next week.
