The Rare Wild Animals Rescue & Breeding Research Center in Shaanxi is searching for a name of the panda cub born on July 18 at the animal rescue and research center. The center also seeks individuals or groups who will adopt the cute little panda, weighing 192 grams at birth, through financial donations.
According to the center, the naming and adoption activity is part of the center's program to raise public awareness about animal protection.
First Baby Panda in Shaanxi Province This Year
The baby panda, born to her mother "Xin Xin" following 123 days of pregnancy, was the 14th panda born at the center and the first in the province for this year.
The center, together with the Shaanxi Association of Forest Culture, initiated the naming program to solicit a beautiful name for such a beautiful cub.
The adoption program, which does not actually mean you can take home the panda, encourages persons or institutions to donate financial assistance as a panda's yearly expenses usually hit CNY100,000 or $16,130.
The adopter can choose to pay at least one year's expenses or five years' worth of cost of maintaining the cub. The little panda will remain at the center.
The adopters will have the right to know about the panda and will have visitation rights.
In Chengdu, Only 1 of 3 Newly-Born Cubs Survive
In Chengdu, Sichuan Province, an 18-year-old female Panda, named Jiaozi, gave birth to three cubs but only one survived, the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding announced.
The only survivor among the three cubs, a female that weighs 96 grams, is being carefully attended by the breeding center staff because she is unwell and her mother does not have the ability to produce milk.
