Miley Cyrus has once again made the headlines as Mexican officials are seeking to mete out punishment for her actions involving the Mexican flag.

According to news reports, the 21-year-old pop star is the subject of a state legislature discussion due to her recent performance that included the use of the Mexican flag. With the strength of the video footage of the alleged performance, the officials described that one of the backup dancers of the famous star used the flag to spank or slap the back side of Cyrus while she did her infamous "twerking" move. The reportedly offensive and supposedly unlawful act was done during an Independence day performance on the evening of Tuesday in Monterrey located in the northern area of Nuevo Leon.

Outraged by this performance, a state legislature of Mexico is now demanding the nation's federal government to impose a fine against the singer. In a statement from one of the local legislators, Francisco Trevino, he explained that state legislature of Nuevo Leon had already passed a warrant to implement the rules and regulations regarding the uses of the Mexican flag. Trevino disclosed that this warrant has been submitted to the Interior Ministry.

In accordance with the law, Cyrus and her entire team could be facing a penalty that may reach approximately $1,200. Trevino said that the singer and everyone else involved in the violation of the law on the use of the Mexican flag may also be incarcerated for 36 hours.  

This case is not the first time the Mexican authorities have raised their objections over the use of their flag or any other national symbol. In 2008, the Mexican officials have reportedly imposed a hefty fine against Paulino Rubio. The singer was punished due to her picture that appeared in a magazine. In the photograph of Rubio, she was featured naked and had only the Mexican flag draped around her body. This reportedly disrespectful act caused the singer $4,000 in fine.
