Pretending to be a ghost this time of year in China is probably not the best idea, a man in Taiyuan, Shanxi province, found out in a bad way. China recently observed the Qingming Festival or Tomb-Sweeping Day on April 5 where they visit and clean the grave sites of their ancestors as a show of respect. It is also the time when, according to superstitions, ghosts of ancestors actively roam.

Local media reported that a man wore a ghost mask on the evening of April 4 to scare his roommate. The roommate was so scared that, in a fit of self-defense, broke the nose of the "ghost."
"I was so scared at that moment that I felt nothing in my mind and even my heartbeat seemed to stop. The prank was overdone, especially on that day," the roommate said.
The man hid in the cupboard and jumped out at his roommate. He was sent to the hospital for minor injuries to his face. "The punch was to protect myself, not a deliberate move."
The pair was arguing who will shoulder the medical bills. The prankster said that his roommate only paid 600 yuan for emergency medical treatment but doesn't want to pay more for succeeding treatments.
As of this writing, the pair agreed to split the other bills.
