With the impending release of iPhone6 and iPhone 6 Plus generating considerable buzz Thursday, the early release of its iOS8 mobile operating system the previous day was generating its own immense amount of chatter.

The iOS8 system isn't revolutionary, but it's free for those with iPhone 4S, 5, 5C and 5S and employs new properties aiding user flexibility.

Device continuity is a major selling point for the new system. It will be useful in the new OS X Yosemite due for release next month. Those employing the system will be able to use its Handoff protocol to respond to phone calls on a laptop or desktop computer and exchange documents in use from iPhone to iPad to computer seamlessly.

The new iOS8 introduces the possibility of widgets from independent, not Apple, developers. They can introduce new apps similar to those already appearing on Android systems. Simple, new apps can do things like check traffic and data utilization and even the weather.

Keyboards are different with the iOS8. Swype and other third-party typing apps soon will be available. The native typing system will be upgraded even allowing predictions of next words based on what's being typed.

Siri will be updated to use its Shazam app better. Music and related media not known to system users can be identified through Siri's best guesses.

As many as six people can share their iPhone and iPad purchases thanks to the new operating system that goes from Apple pad to computer to phone easily. That means the App Store, iBook and iTunes purchases can be shared through one account.

Photo albums can be created automatically through family photo albums shared by everyone within the social circle. Family calendars, too, can be distributed among users with permission.
