The Wutaishan Buddhist Association (WBA) of Shanxi Province will sue media outlets and netizens who share a video that allegedly shows its members partying at a nun's wedding.
The video, titled "Buddhist nuns participate in a Wutai Mountain nun's wedding," showed bald women in robes at a hotel, partying the night away. The WBA said in a statement that the guests on the video are members of Wuxingbi, a pyramid scheme that requires their members to shave their heads. It has already garnered 1 million views over the weekend.

The WBA added that it has taken legal actions against the uploaders who used their name to get clicks and views. Its lawyers are now working to have the video platforms remove the content, apologize to the WBA, and provide compensation for "tarnishing Buddhism."
"Buddhism is a peaceful and tolerant religion, and considers litigation a last resort," said Wei Hasheng, WBA's lawyer. "However, more and more cases have blackened the name of Buddhism in recent years. It's time for us to take actions to defend the reputation of Buddhism."
The video also received backlash from the public.
