It was a rookie mistake.

A man accidentally ran to a police station minutes after snatching a woman's mobile phone in Shenzhen, Guangdong province, leading to his obvious arrest.

Footage from surveillance cameras on the street of Longgang district showed the 38-year-old suspect parking his bicycle nearby before running towards the victim, a woman who was holding an umbrella waiting at a traffic junction, to snatch her mobile phone away.

The woman ran after the suspect as he crossed the road, but she tripped in the middle of the road. The man passed through several gates and ran straight into a police station. A police officer was smoking nearby as the thief ran in. He immediately arrested the man after the victim came chasing him, shouting that he took her phone.

"When he ran into the station, his expression was panicked and confusion was written all over his face. Normally, suspects are quite sly. But this suspect appeared to be unfamiliar with the area, so he ran directly into our police station. This is a very rare occurrence," the police officer told local media.

Initial investigation showed that the thief just arrived in Shenzhen and is still looking for a job and a place to live in.
