A court in Guangdong province sentenced a caregiver to death for the murdering her ward to get her salary early.
Chen Yuping, a mother of two children and is in her 40s, got a job as a caregiver for Feng, a 97-year-old man in Guangzhou, Guangdong province. She arrived at his house on January 6, 2015, her first day on the job. After eating lunch, she gave the victim sleeping pills and strangled him to death. An autopsy revealed traces of sleeping pills in his stomach and signs of strangulation on his neck. A relative discovered the man's body at 2 am the next day.

The suspect was detained and initially denied any involvement in the death of her patient, but later confessed to the crime and her motive.
She said she killed the victim because she wanted to get her salary early and return home in time for the Chinese New Year. The victim's family said that they had an agreement with Chen wherein they will give her the full salary for the month even if she "did not see out the entire month."
Chen's husband for 25 years testified against her, saying that she has always been money-driven and narrow-minded, while her sister described her as an introvert.
The court also ordered Chen to pay 38,329 yuan in compensation to the victim's family.
Chen, who is from Yingde, about 140 kilometers north of Guangzhou, was sentenced to death and ordered to pay 38,329 yuan ($5,550) in compensation to the victim's family.
