Apple stores across 115 countries around the world are officially selling the Cupertino-based company's new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus to consumers on Friday.

Apple, Inc. has given in to clamor from fans of larger smartphones, which are already common in the Android handset market, by offering the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 and the larger 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus.

The smaller iPhone 6 has a 750 x 1334 pixel resolution on a LED-backlight in-plane switching liquid crystal display with a pixel density of some 326 pixels per square inch behind a shatterproof glass screen.

It's equipped with an Apple A8 chipset; a dual-core 1.4 gigahertz Cyclone central processing unit; a PowerVR GX6650 graphics chip and a gigabyte of random access memory. While the iPhone 6 has no card slot for expandable memory, users can buy any the handset's three different options of built-in memory, which are 16, 64 and 128 gigabytes.

The new handset has an 8 megapixel camera, which is capable of taking pictures with a resolution of 3264 x 2448 pixels, dual-LED flash and phase detection autofocus.

When recording videos, the main camera can record 1080p at 60 frames per second and 720p at 240fps. Its smaller front-facing counterpart is a 1.2 megapixel camera that has face detection and can record 720p videos at 30fps.

The phone, which comes in Space Gray, Silver and Gold color schemes, runs on Apple's newest operating system for its mobile phones, the iOS 8. The iPhone will have a non-removable Lithium-ion battery capable of standing by for up to 250 hours and 14 hours of talk time or up to 50 hours of continuously blasting music.

While it has near field communication technology, which lets handsets and other similar devices establish radio communication by touching or bringing the two devices within a few centimeters of each other, the NFC is reserved for the company's Apple Pay feature.

Meanwhile, the iPhone 6's bigger brother, the iPhone 6 Plus, has the same set of hardware and features except for the screen size, dimensions, weight and battery life.

The battery of the larger model can last up to 384 hours in standby, up to a day of talk time and up to 80 hours of music playing.
