Backup Dancers Sue Cher Over Wrongful Firing, Racism and Sexual Assault Cover-Up

Three of Cher's backup dancers are suing the singer for being "personally involved in the cover-up of a sexual assault against a female fan by one of her other male dancers while on Cher's Dressed to Kill Tour." They also claim in the lawsuit filed on Thursday that the singer didn't want black dancers with her onstage.

The case was filed by Jacquelyn Dowsett and others against Cher Sarkisian, Isis Productions, Lindsay Scott and Roger Davies in Superior court. Allegations being thrown involve retaliation, racial and age discrimination, wrongful firing and unfair competition.
The three dancers and/or choreographers worked with Cher on her previous tours for over a decade.
However, they were quickly fired despite having signed employment contract extensions to continue being part of the second leg of the tour. The reason given for the firing was "budget cuts".
When the three were fired, they were quick to reveal the alleged sexual assault cover-up.
Cher was also said to have reviewed audition tapes with her choreographer and commented that "the tour had too much color" and prohibited the casting of any dark-skinned blacks.
The choreographer Kevin and Easter, a dancer in the tour are dark-skinned African-Americans.
Acording to the lawsuit, "One month after the report of the assault, all three whistleblowers were fired, whilst the dancer whom they accused of sexual assault remained gainfully employed. After plaintiffs retained counsel and notified tour management of their employment discrimination claims the dancer was put on 'probation.'"
The dancers claim that the "budget cuts" reason given was untrue, especially since media outlets recently reported that Cher's D2K Tour is headed towards becoming one of the most successful tours of 2014, grossing US$54.9 million during the first leg of the tour. All 49 shows which began in July 11 were sold out.
The three complainants also shared that Cher had brought in Bob Mackie to redo all her costumes, costing US$100,000 per outfit.
