Sony announced Thursday that Minecraft: PlayStation 4 Edition is coming to retail stores in North America on Oct. 7. PS4 owners can add the physical copies of Minecraft to their collection.
Sony will also release a patch that will be distributed on PSN on Oct. 7, as well. The company wants to make sure players get the best Minecraft experience possible on the PS4.

This is said to be a "day one patch," which is a curious name for it considering Minecraft is already available as a downloadable game on PS4.
The earlier release of the patch version was successful. Users can buy it for only US$5 if they have Minecraft on PS3.
Minecraft first appeared on the PlayStation platform in December 2013 and became the best-selling PS3 game on the PlayStation Store every month in the United States.
Sony also announced it will announce more news in the coming weeks about the PlayStation Vita version of the game.
After Microsoft's recent acquisition of Minecraft maker Mojang, there were questions raised about the status of its Vita version although there were indications that it wouldn't be pulled from PlayStation or iOS platforms.
Phil Spencer, the boss of the Xbox platform, said he believes the Vita version will happen. Along with its promise, it's likely it will indicate that nothing is amiss regarding the long-awaited handheld version.
