Li Na Awarded 2013 US Open Sportsmanship Award Unanimously

September 6th, U.S. Open Organizing Committee held a small press conference to announce Chinese professional tennis player Li Na was awarded the 2013 US Open Sportsmanship Award. Previously, the male athlete was announced to who receive the award yesterday. The male winner is Spanish famous tennis player David Ferrer.

Li Na's agent Max Eisenbud said when being interviewed that it was a great honor for Li Na to win the US Open Sportsmanship Award. It proves Li Na's outstanding performance at this year's US Open has captivated the fans and audience. At the same time, Li Na's sense of humor and openness also gain praise from US media and lots of tennis seniors.
According to American famous tennis correspondent Matt Cronin, this is the second year for the United States Tennis Association to start awarding the US Open Sportsmanship Award. Last year's winners were Bryan brothers and Samantha Stosur. Matt Cronin said as one of the seven-person committee members, he and other six committee members (including Martin, Mary Carillo, Chanda Rubin, Mary Joe Fernandez, Jon Vegosen and Lars Rosene) voted for Li Na unanimously, because Li Na demonstrates excellence in sportsmanship throughout the US Open as an elite athlete.
It is known the eligibility requirements for athletes to receive the US Open Sportsmanship Award is that they must have participated in at least two series tournaments and the 2013 US Open. It means Serena Williams and Victoria Azarenka were all in this year's shortlist for the US Open Sportsmanship Award.
