Twentieth Century Fox has given the go-ahead to start production for the "X-Men" spinoff movie, "Deadpool".

Deadpool was first introduced to moviegoers in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine". Deadpool is a mentally unstable mercenary and anti-hero made famous by his nonstop talking and ability to heal himself at a superhuman-rate.

The character also becomes deformed when the growth of cancerous tumors in his body accelerates due to his superpowers. The acceleration causes the development of massive scar tissues, making him deformed.

The said character was played by actor Ryan Reynolds in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine".

The studio was prompted to revive the project which has sat in the back-burner for years after a fan leaked test footage shot around a year ago. Unfortunately, the clip has been taken down and is no longer available online.

The clip featured a mix of action and humor, two constants with the character of Deadpool which has made him a beloved character to many "X-Men" fans as well as a cosplay staple.

When asked about the possibility of a "Deadpool" movie, Reynolds shared with Niagara Falls Review, "There was such an overpowering reaction to the footage, you sort of feel like, 'Oh, so we weren't crazy for our reasons for loving this character, for loving this role.' It's interesting to see the power of the Internet. It's awe-inspiring, actually. And it's neat that Twitter and Facebook and Instagram can move mountains when used in the right way."

While Reynolds and director Tim Miller have already signed on to the project, other actors have yet to be tapped for the movie.

The screenplay for the movie was penned by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the writers of the humorous horror flick, "Zombieland." Previously, a draft of the script was leaked online.

"Deadpool" is set for release on February 12, 2016.
