NASA Announces the Summer of 2014 was the Hottest

It is hot in here or is it just us?

NASA has announced that August was the warmest ever recorded worldwide since they started to keep track of temperatures back in 1880.

August's average land and ocean surface temperature was 61.45 Fahrenheit or16.35 Celsius. The 20th century average for August is 60.1°F or 15.6°C.

The summer of 2014 beat that of 2010, which was first recorded as the hottest summer ever, said the National Climatic Data Center.

This year could become the Earth's warmest ever should the remaining four months fall within their top five hottest, said Jake Crouch, a climatologist for the National Climatic Data Center in North Carolina.

The first eight months of 2014 were the third warmest period on record.

The warmest temperatures recorded in August have affected the overall temperature. Also, the oceans were very warm compared to the other months for the whole year.

According to the data, August 2014 is the 38th consecutive time that August's temperature was above historic averages. The last below-average temperature for August was back in 1976.

This year is said to be the third hottest summer on the record. Also, only the central and eastern United States have remained cooler than summer's average temperature this year.

Reports also show that the extreme temperatures between Western Heat and combined Central and Eastern chill has brought about near-average summer temperature all over the states.

The 2014 summer is not just the hottest but also the coolest summer since 2009 regarding the combined cool and heat from the three areas.

The warmest states this summer were California, Oregon and Washington.

As for the below-average summer temperatures, areas along the Rocky Mountains as well as the areas through the central and the East Coast were recorded.
