Sitting in Beijing, the capital of China, Peking University is as attractive as the city. Beijing is always the center of the country, and Peking University is fortune enough to have gone through all the historical experience with the city, and have been growing with it.

Peking University was Imperial University of Peking before, which was founded in 1898. After the Reform Movement of 1989, Guangxu Emperor issued an order of setting up the Imperial University of Peking. Only two years later, the Eight-Nation Alliance invaded and destroyed the university. 1902, the operation of the university recovered little by little, yet the buildings and constructions were still untouched and the situation remained for a while.

The Imperial University of Peking was treated as the symbol of a new educational system as the Imperial Academy and the Imperial Examination were abolished. A few scholars said the university was the pathway connecting the old style Imperial Academy and the modern education system. Some others disagreed with the statement, saying that the new university existed because the country needed a new education system, which would not be the same as the previous one. It carried out the mission of talent cultivation for the future development.

The school was renamed as Peking University in 1912, which was also the first national university in China, and Yan Fu was the president of Peking University. In the following decades, Peking University was the original place of various patriotic campaigns and the students had contributed a lot to pushing the process of reform movements and campaigns. In the middle twenties, the people who went to foreign countries for further studies came back to China, and many of them started teaching students at Peking University. They brought different ideas, thoughts and new technologies to the university and the society, which was in great desire of science, knowledge, and creative thoughts to get rid of the old world.

Nowadays, Peking University has dozens of excellent majors that are also well known in the world. Every year, thousands of students apply the university, and only those outstanding ones are selected. Peking University to China is as Harvard to America. The graduates from the top academic institute are absorbing themselves into the society and working hard to make it better and better for our human beings.
