According to the prosecutors, MacNeill intentionally killed his wife, Michele MacNeillm, so that he could be with his mistress.
The incident happened after Michele had a cosmetic surgery, went home and her husband gave her drugs and left her to drown in the tub.
MacNeill could face life imprisonment; 15 years for obstruction of justice and 15 years to life for the murder.
Rachel MacNeill and Alexis Somers, two of the daughters of the deceased, are expected to give a statement prior to their father's conviction.
Initially, investigators said that Michele's death was of natural causes, saying that she could have suffered from a heart attack, however, the investigation became more extensive after several family members insisted that there could have been a foul play involved.
According to Chad Grunander, the prosecutor assigned to the case, Michele's family, including her daughters and sister, Linda Cluff, were a "driving force" in the case.
Prosecutors said that they had a difficulty with the case because it was hugely circumstantial in nature.
According to Grunander, the case was already swept aside before he started handling it in 2010.
Meanwhile, MacNeill insists that he had nothing to do with his wife's death.
His lawyer, Randy Spencer, said Michelle had a heart attack, fell into the tub and drowned.
But according to the testimony of MacNeill's cellmates, the doctor confessed to his wife's murder.
The MacNeills' lived in the Mormon community of Pleasant Grove, south of Salt Lake City in Utah.
Michele was a mother of eight and used to be a beauty queen.
