2013 Nanning - South East Asia International Tourism and Food Festival is held in Guangxi Province of China these days. During the opening ceremony, a giant hot pot, as a challenge to a new Guinness World Record for the largest hot pot in the world, was given a rapturous welcome by Nanning citizens.
The giant hot pot consists of a main pot of a diameter of 3.6 meters, and 10 smaller pots. The hot pot is called "WAN NIAO GUI CHAO", which means, "tens of thousands of birds returning to home" in English. Besides, the organizers claim the 10 smaller hot pots are designed to celebrate the 10-years anniversary for the cooperation between China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
An activity was held during the opening ceremony on the theme of "Every Citizen Joining In Delicacies". The organizers invited 100 citizens and visitors with different surnames to taste the delicacies and snacks in the food festival for free.
This year's food festival is held mainly in Huanan Food Festival Plaza of Nanning City and ASEAN Food Town, including four parts of food events, cultural activities, tourism promotion, and leisure activities. A total number of 118 booths are set during the food festival, including 68 booths from abroad and 50 local food booths.
Astonishingly, there were many whole alligators roasted on the grill yesterday during the food festival, which was claimed as a kind of Southeast Asian style delicacy. The sellers conduct much propaganda, saying roast alligators are tonics, which are good to our health. Every dish of the roast alligator is sold at the price of 50 yuan ($9.8 USD).
