Anthony Daniels: Did Not Have Interest In C-3PO Role At First

British actor Anthony Daniels, who plays the role of the iconic Star Wars droid C-3PO, says that he landed the role because he doesn't have the slightest interest in it.

According to Daniels, he only agreed to meet with George Lucas, the creator of the Star Wars franchise, out of politeness back in the 1970s, adding that his laid-back demeanor that time resulted to him being cast as C-3PO.

Daniels told a media outlet that he was not interested in joining the cast by playing the gold droid and stated that he was just being polite to Lucas. He added that he had been civil, but he also shared that the discussion about it wasn't something he found very interesting.

The 68-year old actor jokingly added that during that time, Lucas was fainting from meeting every actor in England.

Daniels shared that almost everyone auditioning for the part of the Star Wars droid were showing off a stiff robot dance routine, but the actor did not - something that Lucas probably found refreshing which in turn, resulted to the franchise creator to choose Daniels for the part.

Daniels said that there were a lot of people coming in for the role of C-3PO doing the same thing which the actor found embarrassing.

"What do you say to somebody who comes in like that?" says the actor.

Daniels shared that he had been very relaxed at that time because he did not want to job anyway, saying, "I only spoke about this picture out of something to talk about."

The actor is getting ready to reprise his role for the upcoming sequel 'Star Wars: Episode VII', revealing that he has turned down the offer to play a voice-only role for C-3PO as J.J. Abrams planned to make the character a CGI.

Daniels says that he convinced the director to use live action which then allows the actor to climb into C-3PO's iconic golden metal suit.
