Samsung-tracking blog SamMobile obtained pictures and details on what is allegedly Samsung's Galaxy A5 smartphone, a mid-range model the company is planning to release along with three other devices under the Galaxy A product line.

The Galaxy A5, according to SamMobile's sources, is neither plastic nor metal but is a material that "feels cold in the hand." CNET's Scott Webster assumes the electronics manufacturer could be using a new mixture of materials for the A5's housing.

The alleged Galaxy A5 could sport a 5-inch super active-matrix organic LED screen with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels; a front-facing 5 megapixel camera and a 13 megapixel main camera. It could also be equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, 16 gigabytes of internal storage, a microSD card slot for expandable memory and a 2,300mAh battery.

While Samsung is busy developing the Samsung Galaxy A5, it's also gearing up to launch the company's Galaxy Note 4, the new version of its phablet, a portmanteau of the words "phone" and "tablet."

The phone-tablet hybrid will launch Oct. 17 in the United States.

Samsung said Thursday preorders for the Note 4 will begin on Friday, the very same day rival Apple, Inc. will launch the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

The South Korean company is upping the ante by offering a "guaranteed total trade-in of $200" on functioning handsets that are exchanged for a preorder of the Galaxy Note 4. The proposal by Samsung means that even old phones that are close to becoming worthless in the current market will still receive $200 to spend on the latest Galaxy Note.

The deal will be available from Friday until Oct. 16.
