Heisman Trophy winning Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston had his first half suspension in Saturday's game against Clemson increased to the entire game by Garnett S. Stokes, FSU interim president.

Winston had been suspended for the first half only by coach Jimbo Fisher after the quarterback was outed by numerous campus tweets for standing on top of a table at the student union dining area and shouting an obscene phrase relating to having sex. Shouting the phrase in public or on camera at breaking news events has become a popular fad among some young people this month.

The Clemson matchup is a key Atlantic Coast Conference game. The winner of the FSU-Clemson game has been in the ACC title game every year since 2009.

The initial first half suspension came under fire for being too lenient. So, Stokes and athletic director Stan Wilcox stepped in late Friday and increased the punishment.

The statement announcing the increased punishment said a continuing investigation of the incident caused the school officials to change the coach's original suspension. Fisher previously had said punishment was his prerogative. He declined comment after the change was announced.

As for the 20-year-old Winston, he said Wednesday he needed "to tone it down." However, he has said that before addressing other issues that have affected his career, the most notorious of which was stealing $32 worth of crab legs from a local market. He did 20 hours of community service and was suspended three games for that infraction. He also was accused of sexual misconduct, but no charges were filed.

Addressing his then-one half suspension on Wednesday, Winston went on to say he was working on his ability to overcome adversity. He said he wanted to be on the field, so the suspension was "going to eat me up."

As for the big game, Sean Maguire, an obscure red-shirt sophomore will be handling the quarterbacking duties against 22nd ranked Clemson. He has tossed only 26 passes in NCAA play. FSU is 16-0 with Winston at quarterback since the beginning of last year's season.
