Monica Niculescu defeated second seed Alize Cornet 6-4 6-0 to win the Guangzhou International Women's Open in China on Saturday.

The 26-year-old Romanian had an amazing tournament as she did not lose any set and did not allow any player to produce more than four points on all of her victories including her triumph over fourth seeded Bojana Jovanovski in the first round.

This is Niculescu's second WTA tour title after winning the Brasil Tennis Cup in March of last year against Olga Puchkova of the Czech Republic.

Both players were able to break each other's serve in the first set but Niculescu came out on top. Cornet just couldn't keep up with the Romanian in the second as Niculescu shuts her out to win the covenant title.

Cornet on the other hand failed to take home a crown also in the doubles competition along with partner Magda Linette.

They were defeated in the finals by the unlikely hero of Chen Liang of China and Chinese Taipei's Chia-Jung Chuang.

Liang and Chuang came back from a set down, battled a tie-break in the second set and seized the deciding set to take home their first WTA title together 2-6 7(7)-6(3) 10-7.

This is 25-year-old Liang's first title while veteran Chuang had 20 other WTA crowns with various teammates but mostly with Yung-Jan Chan also from Chinese Taipei.

They had an amazing tournament winning over fourth seeds Raluca Olaru and Shahar Pe'er in the quarters and second seeds Andreja Klepac and Maria Teresa Torro Flor in the semifinals all in three sets.

This is their first tournament after pairing up for the first time and they hope to continue their partnership in the future Asian events and hopefully move on to the Grand Slam titles starting with the Australian Open early next year.
