The activists of Taiwan Alliance to Promote Civil Partnership Rights held wedding banquet which looked like traditional wedding scene where the activists sat at the round tables with printed red cloths on which wedding was written in Chinese language.
The activists held the banquet in a makeshift venue at a square outside the presidential office in Taipei with live performances and showed video recording of local celebrities showing their allegiance to the cause and garner public support.
The group's activists said that they want to garner support for the cause of gay marriages as they believe that everyone have equal rights to get married and have families as per their wish.
"Public support for gay marriages in Taiwan is increasing day by day as other countries including France, Britain and New Zealand had already approved the legislations to recognize same sex marriage," said an activist of the Taiwan Alliance to Promote Civil Partnership Rights.
The group has drafted the bill that will be tabled in parliament in its next session which will begin in coming weeks.
Taiwan is considered as one of the Asia's most liberal societies and gays and lesbians have been urging the government to legalize same sex marriages from the last few years.
In the 10th annual Gay Pride event in 2011, around 50,000 gays and lesbians along with their supporters had held marched in Taiwan to urge the government to recognize gay marriages in the country.
However, their efforts met a serious setback when two petitioners Chen Ching-hsueh and Kao withdrawn their case in a court.
The duo had filed the case in 2011 against a government marriage registration agency after it refused to recognize their marriage and had refused to register the marriage.
