Maika Monroe Likes Being TIFF's 'Scream Queen,' Co-Stars With Dan Stevens in 'The Guest'

If someone has to be chosen as the 'Scream Queen' for the Toronto International Film Festival, media reports say it has got to be Maika Monroe who starred in two films - the horror flick 'It Follows' and the action-thriller 'The Guest' - both of which were featured in the TIFF's Midnight Madness.

The 21-year old actress plays the lead on both films. In 'It Follows,' Monroe plays a woman who is being haunted by a 'sexually transmitted' ghost.

Monroe will also be playing the lead in 'The Guest' alongside 'Downton Abbey' star Dan Stevens who will be portraying the role of David, a mysterious man who suddenly comes unannounced and gets himself involved in the family of Monroe's character.

In the story, Monroe's character is suspicious of David and in turn, will investigate his background and find out his true nature.

"I kind of like this 'Scream Queen' stuff," says Monroe jokingly during the closing day of TIFF. She also shared that growing up, she and her friends loved watching horror flicks because they just loved scaring themselves silly.

According to the actress, she had been looking forward to working in 'The Guest' with director Adam Wingard and writer Simon Barrett, who both worked behind the scenes of the horror flick 'You're Next.'

Monroe has also shared her opinion about the horror movie, saying that watching it is 'something new,' describing it as 'crazy and twisted' but playful at the same time.

Despite being excited when working for 'The Guest,' the actress shared that she felt a little unsure about her co-star Stevens who plays the role of a homicidal nice guy in the story.

Monroe says she started watching 'Downton Abbey' when she learned that she will be working with the actor, saying that she had been worried about how he was going to pull off his role when he played its polar opposite in 'Downton Abbey.'

"I was confused. And then, his transformation blew me away," says Monroe.

'The Guest' is set to open in theatres this coming Friday, September 26, while 'It Follows' is scheduled for release next year.
