Siemens' First Overseas Digital Plant Opens in China

Siemens AG, the largest Europe-based electronics and electrical engineering company, announced today that its first overseas digital factory has started operations in Chengdu, Sichuan Province.

The Siemens digital factory, named Siemens Electronics Works Chengdu (SEWC) will manufacture products intended for the global markets. The SEWC operates in Chengdu High-Tech Zones.
Anton Huber, Chief Executive Officer of Siemens AG Industrial Automation Division, said the digital factory has started production of a new generation of industry automation products called Simatic IPC 3000 SMART.
First Digital Plant Overseas
The Chengdu digital factory investment shows Siemens' confidence in China's further growth. The digital factory is the first overseas digital plant of Siemens, a German multinational engineering and electronics conglomerate company headquartered in Munich and Berlin, Germany,
The Siemens Electronics Works Chengdu mainly manufactures the Simatic industry automation products and serves industrial firms around the world that are engaged in the sectors of automobile, metallurgy, petrochemical, food and beverage, and infrastructure.
The Siemens factory is a welcome investment in Chengdu's High-Tech Zone. According to the zone's officer Liu Chao, Siemens' modern digital manufacturing plant will further boost Chengdu's reputation as one of the high-end industrial zones in the world.
Unilever Launches 3rd Manufacturing Plant
Meanwhile, another international company is expanding into China. Unilever today announced the launching of its third manufacturing plant in the country located in Sichuan Province.
Unilever CEO Paul Polman said the Anglo-Dutch multinational consumer goods company believes Sichuan will deliver the company's expectations. The Unilever plant in Sichuan will manufacture consumer goods that will be supplied to other countries.
It will also produce goods for the Chinese market, said Polman. The manufacturing plant is situated in an area of about 27 hectares. It includes a $48.7 million detergent production facility, which is the first phase of the production base. The entire plant is expected to be completed in 2015.
