Streaming service Hulu has reportedly ordered the nine-hour event thriller series "11/22/63" by J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot Productions as based on Stephen King's JFK assassination novel from 2011, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

"11/22/63" follows the story of a high school English teacher named Jake Epping and his role in preventing the shooting of then-President John F. Kennedy. As he travels back in time, Jake's task is put at risk by Lee Harvey Oswald, an unexpected love affair, and the ways with which the past itself does not want to be altered.

While Bridget Carpenter of "Friday Night Lights" will be the executive producer, she has also been asked to write the script for the drama series together with King and Bryan Burk from Bad Robot Productions. Other members of the team behind the upcoming series include Kathy Lingg as executive producer and Athena Wickham as producer.

Brought on and to be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Television, "11/22/63" will be the first collaborative effort for Abrams and Hulu.

According to Hulu, such best-selling book by King has already appealed to audiences worldwide and the company aims to successfully make an on-screen adaptation as based on the thrilling story.

"J.J. Abrams and Stephen King are two of the most celebrated storytellers of our time, and we are excited to be working with them and Warner Bros. Television to bring this unique take on one of the most seminal historic events of the 20th century to Hulu," Hulu head of content and senior vice president Craig Erwich said.

Award-winning author King also commented that he is "excited" for the series to come about and that he is pleased to be working with Abrams and Bad Robot Productions.

In addition, Abrams shared how he has become a big fan of King since he was in junior high school. "The chance to work with him at all, let alone on a story so compelling, emotional and imaginative, is a dream," the 48-year-old director said.

"11/22/63" will be the latest TV venture for both; while Abrams previously worked on "Lost" and "Fringe" for his small-screen projects, King has also worked on CBS' "Under the Dome" which he wrote himself and has recently concluded for the second season.
