After being accused of sexual assault and rape earlier this year, Bryan has officially signed up to direct the next installment of the "X-Men" movies, "X-Men: Apocalypse".

20th Century Fox has confirmed the deal with the director.

The civil lawsuit against Singer was dropped after the accuser, actor Michael Egan, failed to find a lawyer to represent him. Egan accused Singer of raping him in the 1990s when he was still a minor.

Although Singer has been tweeting about working on the script for the new "X-Men" movie in June and, even though rumors have been swirling around that he will definitely being taking the directorship of the said flick, the rape allegations overshadowed his participation.

According to Deadline.com, aside from Singer, the new flick will see the return of James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Hugh Jackman and Nicholas Hoult. "Magic Mike" star Channing Tatum is also set to join the cast as Remy LeBeau/Gambit.

Singer shared that the movie will be true to its apocalyptic title, stating, "Apocalypse will have more of the mass destruction that X-Men films, to date, have not relied upon. There's definitely now a character and a story that allow room for that kind of spectacle."

The movie is set a decade after "X-Men: Days of Future Past" in which we see our heroes, led by Professor Xavier, take on a formidable foe which seeks to release an ancient force determined to end the world as we know it.

Production for "X-Men: Apocalypse" will commence early 2015 and is scheduled to open in theaters on May 2016.

Its predecessor "X-Men: Days of Future Past" made a profit or over $841 million worldwide.

With Singer at the helm, expect an even bigger movie than the last, as he himself once shared, "What we call 'evil' doesn't necessarily deserve any kind of respect or understanding, by any means; it just deserves an acknowledgement of its complexity so we can better understand it - so we can help prevent it."
