Video game developer and digital distributor Valve Corporation has launched Steam Discovery Update, an upgrade that has enhanced the Steam Store's appearance and made it easier for users to search for games, as well as adding a new Curator feature.
"We have made great efforts to increase the number of titles we can publish on Steam, which means more choices for customers," said Valve UI designer Alden Kroll. "This update introduces multiple features and functionality to help customers explore Steam's growing catalog and find the games they are most interested in playing."

Prior to the update, Steam, Valve's software distribution platform, has become much of a chore to navigate through when looking for a new game to buy, according to Maximum PC's Sean Knight. The new filters that were added to the client made Steam's catalog, which currently has 3,700 games, easier to browse.
A user can now filter out non-gaming software, Early Access games and titles the gamer already owns.
Consumers could also customize the options to pick out the genres or products they are interested in. Users would also be given recommendations depending on what the gamer has previously purchased, recent gameplay, recommendations from Curators and suggestions from friends on the service.
The Steam Curators, Valve said, are the new "tastemakers" of the Steam Community. The Curators are another form of a group in the Steam Community who are able to recommend content that would show up on the homepage of a follower.
To become a Curator, one must first create a Steam Community group or become a moderator or officer of a group. The user must then make no less than 10 recommendations on the Steam client to show up on lists that other Steam users that are looking for Curators to follow.
