Former number two overall pick in the 2003 National Basketball ssociation (NBA) Darko Milicic is retiring from professional basketball to pursue a different sport in kickboxing.

The 7'0" 275-pound Milicic will be signing a contract with the World Kickboxing Association.

Milicic was selected by the Detroit Pistons right after two-time NBA champion and two-time MVP, Lebron James. In the same draft, he was joined by other superstars Dwyane Wade, Carmelo Anthony, and Chris Bosh.

While all four out of the top five have gone on to win championships and carve out a spot for themselves on the NBA hall of fame, Milicic quietly retired from the sport.

With the Pistons, Milicic had minimal playing time as the team's center. However, he did become the youngest player - at 18 years old - to play in an NBA championship, when the Pistons beat the Los Angeles Lakers in 2004.

Years went by and Milicic began to question if the Pistons should have drafted him, given that they weren't increasing his playing time despite his noteworthy performances in the summer leagues and practice sessions.

He was then passed around to several teams like Orlando Magic, Memphis Grizzlies, New York Knicks, Minnesota Timberwolves, and finally the Boston Celtics.

The Celtics released Milicic in 2012 when he requested it, stating that he needed to take care of personal matters.

He had played a total of 10 years in the NBA, with an average of six points, 4.2 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks per game.

He retires at the age of 29.

Since 2013, Milicic has been training hard for his kickboxing debut. Witness his training sessions in the video below.
