The sovereign Arab country, Qatar, might lose its right to host the World Cup in 2022 due to climate concerns.

There has been news for months regarding corruption in Qatar. An earlier article in The Sunday Times, said that FIFA Exco member Mohamed bin Hamman paid as much as US $5 million in fees and gifts to get the World Cup votes.

However, the country in Western Asia will not be losing the right to host the premier soccer event because of that. Instead, it is because of how hot the weather can get.

Since 2010, - when Qatar won its bid for the World Cup - people have been worrying about the climate can affect the quality of the games. During the middle of July, the temperature is measured to get as high as 106 degrees.

Dr. Theo Zwanziger, a member of FIFA's executive committee, expressed his personal opinion, saying that he expects Qatar to lose its hosting right because of this.

However, Qatar has since countered Zwanziger's comments. They stress that Qatar will be hosting it, regardless of whether it is in the summer or winter.

State-of-the-art cooling technologies and systems have been implemented in order to remedy the weather.

Fans came to Doha earlier this year and were treated to an open-air Brazil fan zone, where the temperature went down to a cool 22 degrees Celsius.

"The evolution of environmentally-friendly cooling technologies is an important legacy for our nation," the country said.

FIFA president, Sepp Blatter, has voiced a similar concern, saying that it was a mistake to make Qatar the World Cup hosts.

If Qatar were to lose its hosting rights, it is still unclear who will replace it.

Indonesia and Mexico withdrew their bids early in the process, while Japan and South Korea had just recently co-hosted the 2002 World Cup.

In the meantime, Qatar's own football team will automatically be entered into the tournament. They have never ranked high enough to join previously.
