The Hurun Report, a luxury magazine publisher that tracks China's wealthy, published the 2013 Hurun Rich List that showed the number of Chinese billionaires growing from a year earlier.

Not surprisingly, Dalian Wanda Group President and Chairman Wang Jianlin emerged as the country's new richest tycoon. Wang was also listed as China's richest by Forbes Magazine and Bloomberg.

Wang's fortune was estimated at $22 billion. His Dalian Wanda Group operates hotels, department stores, and cinemas. Last year's richest, Zong Qinghou, settled on the second spot with an $18.7 billion wealth.

On the third spot is Ma Huateng, the founder of popular technology firm Tencent, which has wealth of $10.1 billion.

Number of Billionaires Shows China Growth

According to the report, the growing number of Chinese billionaires reflects China's rapid economic changes and the sudden shifts in wealth from one industry to another.

The latest rankings showed that one in four of the 1,021 people on the Hurun Rich List became billionaires due to real estate money.

This year, real estate is the top source of wealth while last year it was manufacturing that made billionaires.

252 Reported Drop in Wealth

This year, however, is not all good news for China's rich people. According to the Hurun Report, while 559 tycoons reported growth in wealth, 252 said their fortunes shrink this year.

The average wealth of the top 1,000 on the list stood at $1.04 billion, or more than double the average wealth five years ago.

Wu Yajund, a real estate businesswoman who recently gave her ex-husband $3 billion following a divorced, dropped to No 22 from No 8 after her wealth dipped nearly a quarter to $4.6 billion.
