Police have charged the man, who was last seen with the missing University of Virginia student, with abduction last Tuesday.
Charlottesville Police Chief Timothy Longo said in a press conference that the police are hunting down Jesse Leroy Matthew Jr., 32, after obtaining an arrest warrant from a judge on charges of abduction and intent to defile.

The University of Virginia student,18-year-old Hannah Graham, went missing in the early morning of September 13. Authorities had been searching for Graham, who has been missing for two weeks already.
Longo said Matthew was last seen Saturday with his family after they dropped by a police station and asked for a lawyer. Police said he sped away afterward, losing the police officers who attempted to go after him. Matthew was already under surveillance, the police reported.
The police said they have searched Matthew's car and his apartment. Based on these searches, they have come to the conclusion that there is "probable cause" sufficient to charge him in Graham's disappearance. The police force declined to give more information from their investigation.
Matthew was working at the University hospital as a technician in the operating room since August 2012, university spokesman McGregor McCance said.
Court records show that Matthew was convicted of trespassing in 2010, but authorities refused to give more details.
Authorities are also mum on the previous two assault charges slapped against Matthew, as well as the grand larceny charge he incurred in 2009, all of which have not been prosecuted.
Police Captain Gary Pleasants said they have taken clothing items from Matthew's apartment the second time they searched the place. He refused to give out details, stating that said they are still investigating the case and searching for the whereabouts of Graham and Matthews.
As of last Tuesday, the state lab is still analyzing the items submitted by the Charlottesville police, which included about two dozens items and "eight known samples" to be used for comparison purposes.
