Former U.S. President Bill Clinton said Americans are more likely to support the current administration's push for airstrikes against the Islamic State, also known as Daesh, during the 10th annual Clinton Global Initiative. He said the execution of two American journalists is the straw that will lead to the support.

During an interview with ABC News' George Stephanopoulos, Clinton said Americans were shaken by the beheading and as a result, they will judge U.S. President Barack Obama based on what he can do to protect the nation and its people against any kind of threat.

Clinton also talked about what he thinks the people should not and will not support: U.S. troops being sent to the Syrian ground.

He pointed out that Daesh militants intention is to drag America into a ground war, capture American soldiers and kill them. If that happens, the American people could easily blame the U.S. administration for dipping their fingers into the situation.

Daesh militants have openly criticized Obama in their videos saying that he caused the beheadings because he continues to send his people to attack them.

Aside from Clinton weighing on what the people think, he also commented on the plan of Obama noting that it "has a chance to succeed" in reference to the airstirkes. Personally believing that the Obama administration has thought the plan through in order to limit the direct involvement of U.S. in the situation is a smart move and it should be supported, Clinton added.

As for training and arming the Syrian rebels, which was approved days ago, Clinton said it's worth the gamble and that the current administration should just make it work.

Clinton also talked about the upcoming presidential elections, noting that Americans should be responsible in voting and that if the citizens want a leader who will work with the people, they should figure out who would best fit the position.

When asked about his wife's possible presidential run, Clinton declined to comment on the subject.
