The 20-year-old Canadian has never won a WTA event and hopes to achieve her first in Wuhan. She made the quarterfinals after defeating American Alison Riske in an easy two set match 6-2 6-3.

Bouchard will face the winner of the Caroline Wozniacki and Swiss qualifier Timea Bacsinszky matchup.

Bacsinszky upset fourth seeded Maria Sharapova Wednesday 7(7)-6(3) 7-5 to setup her quarterfinals match against Wozniacki who defeated Australian Casey Dellacqua in straight sets 6-0 6-3.

On the other side of the quarters, third seeded Kvitova ended the streak of 20-year-old Garcia 6-3 6-4.

The Frenchwoman Garcia defeated Venus Williams in the first round and topped fifth seed Agnieszka Radwanska in the second round.

The Wimbledon champion Kvitova will next face the winner of the duel between seventh seed Angelique Kerber and another 20-year-old Elina Svitolina of Ukraine who walked over to the quarters after Spaniard Garbine Muguruza withdrew from the match.

Kerber, 26, advanced to the quarters after an easy win over Barbora Zahlavova-Strycova 6-1 6-1.

In the doubles competition, Peng Shuai of China along with new partner Andrea Hlavakova advanced to the semis after defeating the tandem of Klara Koukalova and Anabel Medina Garrigues 7-5 6-4.

Shuai and Hlavakova will face the winner of the matchup between Wimbledon champions Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci, and the Cara Black-Caroline Garcia pair.

Also advancing to the semifinals are U.S. Open finalists Martina Hingis and Flavia Pennetta. They await the winner of the Alla Kudryatseva-Anastasia Rodionova and Raquel Kops-Jones-Abigail Spears match.
