ESPN Personality Bill Simmons Suspended Due to Scathing Words Against NFL Commissioner

Bill Simmons, sports columnist and analyst for the Entertainment and Sports Programming Network (ESPN), was recently suspended for three weeks over several comments he had made about National Football League's Commissioner, Roger Goodell.

Simmons recently made his comments on ESPN's podcast, the B.S. Report.

Joined by Cousin Sal from the Jimmy Kimmel show, he discussed Goodell in relation to the Ray Rice domestic abuse scandal that erupted previously. Simmons called Goodell a liar and followed it up with a whole string of profanity-laced statements.

He had recounted that in a previous press conference, Goodell had lied to reporters, saying that he didn't know what was on the tape.

"I think that dude is lying; if you put him up on a lie-detector test, that guy would fail," he continued to say.

As the podcast went on and the discussion continued to dwell on Goodell, Simmons seemed to be getting more agitated.

Then, as if he were asking for the suspension, he issued an open challenge to the network and reprimand him for his comments.

He wanted people from the network to call or email him and say that his words on Goodell would get him in trouble. He added though that if anyone did, he would go public.

However, if they didn't, then the commissioner was a liar and he would continue to talk about it on the podcast.

"Please, call me and say I'm in trouble. I dare you," Simmons said in the first few minutes of the podcast.

ESPN rose to the challenge, suspending him for three weeks for violating ESPN's journalistic standards.

A spokesperson from the network confirmed that the suspension will cover all platforms that Simmons is present on.
