Who runs the world? Girls do! This is what a new study published in the journal Investigative Genetics shows.
Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology researchers found out that throughout human history, the female population has always been larger than the male population.
To come up with these findings, researchers analyzed the demographic history of males and females in different countries all over the world.

After that, they used their high-resolution Y chromosome sequencing essay to get paternal and maternal histories of their subjects.
Researchers believe that a greater analysis can be undertaken at a regional level to create a clearer picture of the paternal and maternal influences on a specific population.
They found out that in Africa there is a lower paternal genetic diversity probably caused by the Bantu expansion in the eastern and southern Africa three thousand years ago.
Aside from that, they found out that Americans have a higher maternal genetic diversity which means that there were fewer males than females among their original colonizers.
Mark Stoneking, one of the researchers said that their research gave them a new source of information about human genetics history.
It allows researchers to look at the regional differences in population which gives insights on the impact of sex-biased processes on human genetic variation, he added.
Their results showed that the female population has been larger even before the Africa migration and has remained like that ever since.
They said that this is probably because of the concept of polygyny, where one male has to mate with many females that resulted in females making a greater genetic contribution than males.
