It's U.S.versus Europe in the 2014 edition of the Ryder Cup, an international golfing event that seems to get bigger the every two years it's played. The event that takes place in Europe will be televised live for the first time in the U.S. on NBC and the Golf Channel, NBC's partner.

Cup play kicks off at 2:30 a.m. EDT Friday and continues through Sunday. Many golf fans consider this the best golfing event of the year as it pits the top golfers in the U.S. versus Europe's best players.

With teams competing, rather than individual players, Ryder Cup contests feature more of a team sport feel like the Super Bowl or World Series. It also features match play rather than individual scoring making for an interesting and intense sporting dynamic.

Noting it wasn't rocket science, U.S. Ryder Cup captain Tom Watson said U.S. pairs for the competition were set to go. Certain players just naturally played better together, he said.

Following several days of practice rounds, U.S. Ryder Cup pairings were beginning to take form. Lead team should be Phil Mickelson and Keegan Bradley. Mickelson confirmed this speaking to the media on Wednesday.

Bubba Watson and Webb Simpson will team up as they did in 2012. Jordan Seth and Matt Kuchar seemed to be good to go following several practice rounds together. The same was true for Patrick Reed and Jim Furyk. Other American pairs should be Hunter Mahan and Zach Johnson along with Rickie Fowler and Jimmy Walker.

European team pairings were less clear-cut. Sergio Garcia said he could see anybody on the team pairing with anybody although Rory Mcllroy and Graeme McDowell may have been feuding during practice rounds this week, according to reports.

For now, the European team seems to be pairing Mcllroy with Martin Kaymer and McDowell with Victor Dubuisson. Garcia should pair with Henrik Stenson. Ian Poulter takes his top game in a pairing with Justin Rose. Jamie Donaldson looks to partner with Stephen Gallacher. Lee Westwood and Thomas Bjorn should link up on the Scottish links for the Europeans.
