Ferguson police chief Thomas Jackson apologized to the Brown Family for what happened to their son
Ferguson police chief Thomas Jackson apologized Thursday to the parents of 18-year-old Michael Brown, six weeks after his fatal shooting at the hands of police officer Darren Wilson which led to weeks of violent demonstrations in the city of St. Louis.
In a taped video, Jackson expressed his deepest apologies to Brown's family.

"I am truly sorry for the loss of your son," Jackson said. He tried to explain the circumstances that surrounded the death of Brown, one of which was that he was sorry that it took so long to remove Brown's body from the streets.
The police chief said that the late removal of Brown's body was unintentional as members of the police force, specifically the investigators, had to collect important evidence and follow procedure.
He said that the police force was just doing their jobs and they meant no disrespect to the Brown family and the African-American community.
The taped video was shown Thursday on the CNN broadcast.
The taped video comes on the heels of the Brown family holding a Washington news conference and calling on the Justice Department to take over the case of Michael Brown.
Leslie McSpadden, Brown's mother, said she was in Washington to help bring justice to her son's death. Family lawyer Benjamin Crump said neither he nor the family has seen the video.
Another lawyer for the Brown family, Anthony Gray, issued a statement saying that Jackson's apology comes at a time when support for the Ferguson police force is at an all-time low.
Brown was walking together with his neighbor on the street when they were stopped by officer Wilson and ordered to move to the sidewalk. Wilson then allegedly shot Brown a total of six times, killing him in the process.
Brown's body remained on the street for four hours with his mother crying beside him.
Brown's death sparked violent clashes and demonstrations between the residents and the police, injuring many others in the suburbs of St. Louis.
