'Rise of the Legend' is set in the late Qing Dynasty when gangs were rampant in Guangzhou. The film is also said to show the youth of Wong before he became the renowned legend he is now.
During the press conference, Peng recalled his experiences in filming the movie last year, sharing that he has trained rigorously for the role. He also stated that the fight scene he had to do under the rain was filmed for more than ten days.
The scene is said to be about the lead character fighting street thugs. "It's very gory and intense. I had to fight with over ten people," says Peng, adding that he was thankful to the choreographers for helping him out with executing his stunts.
The 32-year old actor also shared that he lost weight while shooting the movie and on top of that, he also lost his voice. Peng said that it was an unforgettable experience he had especially because he they had to take advantage of the rainy weather and had to film very early in the morning.
On the other hand, it is inevitable that Peng will be compared to Jet Li's portrayal of the same character in the 'Once Upon a Time', but Peng said that he studied the character in depth before filming started.
The actor also revealed that the movie is very different as it deals with Wong Fei Hung's relationship with his father and his experiences in friendship and romance.
Peng said that it was not easy taking on a legendary role with all the pressure weighing down on him, but stated that it was an inspirational turn in his career.
'Rise of the Legend' will be released in theaters on November 21, 2014.
