Despite the many creatures of the new animated movie, "The Boxtrolls", you won't have too much of a problem remembering their names because these funny creatures have their names right on their wearable boxes.

So who are the memorable boxtrolls who live underneath the Victorian town of Cheesebridge?

1. Eggs

Eggs is a kind-hearted boy who thinks he is a boxtroll. He fears the world above his own, like any other boxtroll. However, when his family is in peril, he realizes that he needs to toughen up to save them. During his journey, he realizes how human he actually is.

Co-director Anthony Stacchi shared, "In some ways, if Eggs can't figure out where he's going to fit into the world, he could end up being a bitter person like [Archibald] Snatcher [the villain]." 

2. Fish 

Amidst non-thinking, ignorant boxtrolls, Fish is definitely the leader and thinker of the group.

Fish becomes surrogate mother and protector of Eggs who tries her very best to keep him away from danger and harm.

3. Shoe

Shoe is Eggs' grouchy, kleptomaniac of an older brother. Shoe is the worst boxtroll to be with when one is sneaking around the city at night because he always has a bunch of junk clunking away as he moves.
Stacchi shared, "Even when a fellow Boxtroll finds something, he's willing to rip it out of his hands and run off with it."

4. Fragile

Although Fragile is twice the size of any other boxtroll, he's the most fearful of all of them, said to be scared of even his own shadow.

5. Wheels

Wheel travels around via a unicycle that makes a lot of sounds. He is said to make his own sound effects.

Rather than a new language, the boxtrolls were given the ability to communicate via a "delicate dance" of emotive sounds. "You can never quite tell what they're saying but you always get the gist of what they mean," co-director Graham Annable shared. 

6. Oil Can

"If he hears a squeak, he's gotta oil it till it goes away," Stacchi shared.

Oil Can is the group's resident mechanic who oils everything nonstop until he doesn't hear a squeak. 

7. Sparky

Sparky, as his name implies, is the resident electrician of the boxtrolls.

8. Winnie Portley-Rind

Winnie becomes Eggs' friend above-ground.

As Stacchi described, "We really loved the idea of Winnie being obsessed with stories she's heard about Boxtrolls - the more grotesque, the better - because it feeds into her desire to have a father who would be more heroic and would listen to her and defend her." 

9. Archibald Snatcher

The villian who wants to exterminate all boxtrolls.

Although Archibald Snatcher is crazy, there are moments that you understand and even empathize with him and his wanting to fit in. He is also confused about whether he is human or a boxtroll - much like Eggs.

According to Stacchi, Snatcher is "trying to force his way into the world he wants to fit in".
