"Bones" Season Premiere Is Devastating, Major Character Dies (Spoilers)

Nope, it's not Bones. Neither is it Booth. But it certainly is one of the show's longest running, most well-loved characters, having been with the series for seven years.

Babyfaced FBI psychologist Lance Sweets meets his demise in the premiere of the tenth season of the show.

Before Sweet passed, he spoke to both Booth and Bones who had already become family to him at this point. Booth, in particular, shared a brotherly bond with Sweets. The team is set to investigate his death in the next episode.

John Francis Daley, who portrayed Sweets, that after shooting the grim scene of his character's death, he couldn't help but take a minute and "cry like a baby" after his character was zipped up in a body bag. The 29-year old actor said the loss and the scene was particularly emotional.

"I remember how it had choked up David, shooting. Most of my 20s were spent on that show and, fortunately, it's an incredible family. The last day was sad and surreal for me," Daley shared.

The actor shared that his character's death was "grisley" and "shocking".

The death of his character came as Daley is currently experiencing much success behind the camera. He said that he needed to take a break from the show because of projects that have come along that require a lot of his focus and energy.

However, executive producer Stephen Nathan said that it would be hard to justify Daley's absence from the show for months at a time, so even if it was a difficult decision, ending his character's life was the easiest and cleanest way to transition.

"Losing John and losing Sweets was terribly difficult and very painful for us. John's such an important part of the show. ... For him not to be with us any longer is very difficult," Nathan shared.

Daley shares that he is grateful for his years on the show and the management's support in his directorial aspirations, which he has always had even as a child.

He is currently directing the "Vacation" sequel/reboot with Jonathan Goldstein. The movie stars Chris Hemsworth and Christina Applegate.

Previously, he co-wrote "Horrible Bosses", "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2" and "The Incredible Burt Wonderstone".
