The announcement of U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder's resignation prompted Republican lawmakers, who have not always agreed with his policies, to post mocking comments on Twitter.
Among the most notable comments came from Tom Rooney (R-Fl.), who sarcastically saluted Holder's "refusal to uphold" the U.S. constitution. He also mocked the attorney general (AG) for showing his "contempt" for Congress throughout his tenure, ABC News relayed.

"Good riddance Eric Holder," Representative Jeff Duncan (Sc.) said, echoing Rooney's post. "Your disregard for the Constitution of the United States will not be missed."
Senator Ted Cruz, on the other hand, could not conceal his delight with the news of Holder's resignation. He described the latter as the "most partisan AG" in U.S. history.
Governor Bobby Jindal also chimed, branding Holder as the first AG who opposed the Constitution's first and second amendments.
Meanwhile, Representative Darrell Issa (Ca.), one of Holder's most prominent opponents, posted several tweets blasting the resigning Holder. He described Holder as the "most divisive" AG in the U.S.
In addition, Issa questioned the support that the Democrats gave Holder, saying he is the first AG that the House ever held in criminal contempt. He also messed up the legal system by mixing politics with law enforcement, Issa said.
Others, including Louie Gohmert (Tx.), Representative James Lankford (Ok.) and Representative Jason Smith (Mo.) also took to Twitter their criticisms of Holder. Doug Collins and David Vitter said they were "not sorry" to see Holder step down from his position.
Representative Andy Harris (Md.) said Holder should have resigned a long time ago. As for the person who will take his place, Representative Bradley Byrne (Al.) and Pete Sessions (Tx.) both expressed their hopes that the next AG will be someone who upholds the rule of law.
While most of the Republicans celebrated Eric Holder's resignation, Lindsey Graham (Sc.)went against the flow by posting a positive tweet for the outgoing AG. He expressed his appreciation for Holder's service despite his disagreements with him.
