A delivery drone named the Parcelcopter 2.0 will soon be making its first delivery to the German island of Juist in the North Sea.
The drone was built by logistics company DHL that said it crafted the drone to enhance its existing delivery services.
The drone will make several trips each week and will drop-off urgently required goods such as medicine.

This initial trip will serve as a practice run for the drone. It will also allow the company to research more into the aerial service and enable them to refine the performance and design of the drone.
DHL says this is the first step to making drones the primary means to deliver items. Drones will replace the traditional postal service.
The Parcelcopter was first tested by DHL in December 2013. Since then, DHL has worked to improve the range, speed, durability and readiness for flights across the North Sea.
The drone will travel an automated route 12 kilometers long. This marks the first time an unmanned aircraft has operated outside the operator's field of vision.
The delivery flight to Juist will serve as a blueprint for reaching far-flung areas and regions.
DHL worked hard to make the Juist delivery happen. First of all, it needed the approval of local authorities. It also needed to establish a restricted flight area between Juist and the German city of Norden.
DHL also needed to get permission from several other German authorities and locations on the drone's flight path.
If the delivery sessions at Juist prove successful, it could open-up wider reaching drone delivery flights to other European countries, as well.
