Instagram's Hyperlapse App Update to Support Hi-Speed Selfies via Front Camera

Instagram has updated its Hyperlapse app for iOS users by allowing users to take time-lapse selfies and videos through the front camera of their devices.

Hyperlapse, an app designed and introduced to the iOS market in August, is a time-lapse app that lets users shoot high-speed videos using the rear camera of their iPhones. With the new update, Hyperlapse can now be used to take time-lapse selfie videos, dubbed "selfielapse," allowing users to shoot themselves in high-speed motion.

Typical time-lapse videos are shot while standing still or holding the phone still, but Hyperlapse will have a built-in stabilization feature that will let users create moving, handheld time-lapse videos.

Users can also choose how fast the playback speed of their time-lapse videos will be. No registration is needed to use the app. Recording of the time-lapse video will start once the user taps the phone screen.

To be able to create a selfielapse, iOS users just need to tap a button shown on their device's screen to switch from the rear camera to the front-facing one and tap the record button to start shooting the video. Switching from front camera to rear camera is not allowed while recording the video, though.

Time-lapse videos made using Hyperlapse can be shared in social media sites such as Instagram and Facebook. App users can also send it through email or SMS and MMS.

The update in the app rivals the stock time-lapse feature installed in iOS 8 devices.  Hyperlapse is available for iOS users, both iPhone and iPad including the newly-released iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

Meanwhile, Instagram is yet to bring the Hyperlapse app on Android devices as the application programming interfaces (APIs) required for the app aren't yet available on Android.
