A Chinese expert on the Nanjing massacre has blasted Naoki Hyakuta, a board member of Japan's NHK, for claiming that the massacre never happened.

In a speech this week, Hyakuta said the Nanjing massacre is merely negative disinformation promoted by China and is discounted by other countries.
Reacting to the speech, Zhu Chengshan, Nanjing Massacre Memorial Hall curator, said the broadcaster should not be "historically shortsighted and ignorant to such an extent."
Zhu released an article entitled "Historical Ignorance or Malicious Mishap", where he said Hyakuta's statement not only negates the lawful judgment of the International Military Tribunal for the Far East, but also inflicted insult and harm on the survivors and surviving relatives of the cruel act.
In the article, Zhu posed the question, "For whom does Hyakuta root and make such madcap uproar?"
He stressed that Hyakuta made his speech on the Nanjing massacre while campaigning for known anti-China Tokyo gubernatorial candidate, and Japan's former Air Self Defense Force Chief, Toshia Tamogami.
In his article, Zhu pointed out the accounts of foreign journalists and organizations who witnessed the mass killings, which he said should serve as evidence that the Nanjing massacre is not mere Chinese propaganda.
Zhu said that during the fall of Nanjing, foreign nationals from the United States, Britain, Germany and Denmark established the International Committee for the Nanking Safety Zone to provide protection to locals who were left behind.
In just more than a month, the committee made 428 reports on atrocities committed by the Japanese who occupied Nanking and sent over 60 letters of protest to the Japanese Military and consulate.
Zhu also said that based on countless testimonies and concrete evidence, the Tokyo tribunal had regarded the inhumane acts committed by the Japanese troops as unparalleled acts of brutality committed in modern history.
Zhu added that the judgment report on the massacre proved that the Nanjing occupation was planned, and that widespread brutal murder of civilians and captives lasted for a month and a half. Other crimes like rape, looting and burning of properties were done individually or in groups by the Japanese soldiers.
"Hyakuta and his likes now dream of overturning the history, but their efforts won't be popular and will end up in vain," Zhu added.
