UK Prepares Airstrikes against ISIL in Iraq

UNITED KINGDOM - On the eve of the recall of Parliament, majority of MPs voted for the direct participation of British Armed Forces on airstrikes against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) in northern section of Iraq.

UK's Defence Secretary Michael Fallon said that "Britain has a very direct interest in taking on ISIL to stop attacks on British soil."

"We all have a very direct interest. Britain does above all, we've seen already terrorist attacks here, the London Tube, London buses, the murder of Lee Rigby, the attack on Glasgow airport, we've already been under attack from this kind of extremism and we have to deal with it," he added.

Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond also said that Britain has already set its targets through series of consultations from its allied-countries.

British Armed Forces ready for airstrike

The Tornado Jets of the United Kingdom in Cyprus are already preparing to launch its airstrikes in northern Iraq anytime.

The RAF Akrotiri, south coast of Cyprus, will be utilized as the British base for this operation. It has been a British property since the 1950s when it was built.

The Greek Cypriot officials have also expressed their support for an all-out fight against the ISIL.

The Tomahawk Cruise missiles of the Royal Navy Submarine are also being considered to be utilized for the attack against ISIL as Britain bought twenty new missiles worth of £17-million.

Hammond said that Britain "will now be looking at the intelligence picture, talking with allies, identifying appropriate targets for the first British strikes."

Meanwhile, Fallon projected that it will take more than a year before ISIL will totally be destroyed. He added that rehabilitation and humanitarian aides among displaced innocent war victims in northern Iraq as well as rebuilding the Iraqi Army after which will take years to do.
