Number of Chinese Tourists Visiting Beatles Museum Increasing

Chinese tourists visiting The Beatles Story, a museum in Liverpool, England, now outnumber the museum's German and Australian visitors, according to figures released by the museum on Friday.

The Beatles was a pop group of home-grown musicians from Liverpool that rose to fame in the 1960s because of their different brand of music. Friday marked the 50th year anniversary of the pop group's flight to the US to bring what is called Beatlemania to America and inevitably, to the rest of the world.

The Beatles Story, a public museum dedicated to the phenomenal all-male group which is located along Liverpool's famous waterfront, receives some 300,000 visitors from all over the world each year.

Statistics on the profile of museum visitors show that 5 percent of its total visitors in 2013 were from China.  The reported number of Chinese visitors reflects a 1.3 percent increase from the 2012 count.

Martin King, the director of the museum, pleased with the increasing number of Chinese visitors said, "It is just great to see so many visitors from China coming into the Beatles Story. It seems Beatlemania is finally catching on in China. "

"We have noticed a gradual increase in Chinese visitors over the past few years. Our figures show tourists from China have overtaken those from a number of other countries, including Australia and Germany. What is interesting is fans from those two countries have followed the Beatles since the early days. Chinese people are only now discovering the music and talents of the Beatles," said King.

King believes that with China's economic growth, the number of Chinese tourists that visit the UK will continue to grow.
