Wuhan Open: Petra Kvitova Beats Eugenie Bouchard to Capture Crown

Third seeded Petra Kvitova beat Eugenie Bouchard to capture the crown of the inaugural Wuhan Open in China on Saturday.

The scorching heat of Wuhan lived up to its reputation as one of China's "over cities" as Wimbledon champion Kvitova saved seven out of eight break points in the second set to secure the title 6-3 6-4 which lasted just 55 minutes.

The 24-year-old Czech has set up a Wimbledon finals showdown against the Canadian star after defeating Ukrainian Evita Svitolina while Bouchard ousted U.S. Open finalist Caroline Wozniacki at the semis.

This is their third confrontation and Kvitova won all of them.

"I knew that I have to play a little bit more aggressive than I played the matches before," Kvitova said. "I need to play a similar game as in Wimbledon, very aggressively going for the shots."

The sixth seeded Bouchard had hoped to put up more of a fight against Kvitova but during the second set the Canadian jammed her finger in her racket and had to take an injury timeout while down 5-2.

Doctor's taped her finger while holding a bag of ice over her head to cool herself off.

Bouchard went back to the game with determination as she broke Kvitova and held serve to put the match close at 5-4 but Kvitova's left handed serve to the outside is too much for the Canadian to handle as the Czech marched on to win the title.

With the title in China, Kvitova secured a slot at the year-ending WTA finals in Singapore along with World No. 1 Serena Williams, Simona Halep and Maria Sharapova.

Kvitova won the WTA Tour Championships in 2011 against Victoria Azarenka. It was the same year where Kvitova won her first Grand Slam title at the All England Club against Maria Sharapova.
